Art and Nationalism: An Intrinsic Link

Before Nazi Germany came to be, it would morph from a duchy, to a kingdom, to an empire, and eventually to a (Weimar) republic, before eventually ending on the fascist state it was in once Hitler took control. As a result of being so many different types of government over the years, German identity and nationalism took many forms and ideas, especially in the art world. This includes the visual arts, the performing arts, and even architecture, as you can see in the timeline on this page.
