After World War 1 and Germany's embarrassing defeat on the world stage, the country saw a metamorphosis from shame to fury over their treatment by the world, and as the Weimar Republic fell, a sense of nationalism bloomed. This resentment led to the Nazi party gaining power, and by 1933, they had achieved the goal of getting that power with Hitler's appointment as Chancellor of Germany. The Nazi party worked hard to project a very specific image of Germany, one that was more traditional, and shunned modern forms of expression. This section focuses on how art changed in Germany during the Nazi reign, and how they promoted this ideal of Germany.
