It was quite a while before Germany became what we know it as today. Modern Germany largely comes from one of the more powerful states that would end up uniting the states of Germany into the German Empire before World War I, that being the Kingdom of Prussia. As a result, we see that what art is "German" can be a bit difficult, as it was divided for quite a while and was geographically quite large. Keeping this in mind, let's look at some ways that nationalism could be expressed in Germany in a time where it was still not the country we know it as today.
